INGLIS, William (1891-1957)
William Inglis was born at Stawell, Victoria on 14 February 1891, the son of Andrew Knox Inglis and Ann Jane nee Mathers. He was a boarder at Geelong College, enrolled in 1902. His address at entry was the National Bank, Maffra, Victoria.

He tried to enlist during World War I but was initially rejected due to poor eyesight. At the time he was a bank clerk. He was later accepted for enlistment (No 54926) at Colac in the AIF on 5 April 1918 with the 4th General Service Reinforcements, and embarked on 5 June on RMS Orontes. He served in the 14th Training Battalion at Codford, before being posted to 59th Battalion in France on 2 December, thence to 5th Division Headquarters, and the Australian Army Pay Corps on 16 June 1919. He was promoted to ER/Lance Corporal in June 1919 having acted in this role for one year. Inglis returned to Australia, embarking on HMT Aeneas, embarking on 22 November 1919, and was demobilised on 1 February 1920.
His brother, S/Sgt A K Inglis embarked on 26 November 1915 with 23 Battalion, then transferred to 14 Field Artillery Brigade in France.
William Inglis died, aged 66, on 16 November 1957 at Malvern.
