JAMES FRANK DOERY MEMORIAL WINDOW This magnificent window was installed in Norman Morrison Memorial Hall in 2003 after restoration and re-housing. It honours the death, in a flying accident during World War II, of flying Officer
James Frank Doery who was killed on active service in Italy in 1944 during World War II. The Window was originally installed in the Westmere Presbyterian Church but after the de-consecration of the Church was removed and donated to the College by Marjorie Sim, sister of James Doery. The inscription reads
‘In proud and loving memory of our Son Flying Officer James Frank Doery who gave his life in Italy 15 Feb 1944’ .
The 'James Frank Doery Memorial Window' is attributed to William Kerr-Morgan, chief designer of stained glass at Brooks, Robinson and Co of Melbourne. The cartoon (the full scale drawing) was taken in 1947 from an earlier, similar window by the same firm at Holy Trinity Church, Oakleigh. The window at Holy Trinity Church was also a memorial to a serviceman.
Prior to installation in Morrison Hall, the 'James Frank Doery Memorial Window' was repaired and restored by Torben Rusz of Westcoast Leadlights, Geelong.
A second window honouring the McCrow Family and possibly by the same artist was installed at Westmere at a similar time to the James Frank Doery Window. The McCrow window was donated to and installed at the Streatham Uniting Church.
