JOHN, Anthony Taylor (1939-2021)

Tony John was enrolled as a boarder from Ballarat in 1953, starting in Form VE. He was an enthusiastic student, taking on the many aspects of College life from rowing, football, music and the cadets. He was a member of the Head of the River winning crews in 1955, 1956 and 1957, in the cox position. He also played key roles in the Glee Club productions, taking on Ko-Ko in the “Mikado” in 1956 and Jack Point in “Yeomen of the Guard” in 1957. In his final year at College he was Captain of Boats, Senior House Monitor, goal umpire for the 1st XVIII team, Captain of Shooting, Cadet Under Officer and member of the Music and Rowing Committees. A member of Morrison House he received a number school and house colours, caps and honours.

In 1976 most of the 1956 Head of the River crew including Tony reunited to take to the water again at the Head of the River Heats. Ad Astra September 1976 reported:
Six of the crew, together with the cox, were there. This veteran crew looked almost ready to challenge the youthful oarsmen who were to contest the afternoon events as they set out for the starting line! The return lap was interrupted on several occasions in order to conserve energy for a full powered burst across the finishing line.

Tony was married to Marie and they have two children.

Tony passed away 15 June 2021, aged 82 years.
