KNIGHT, Harold Watts (1889-1976)


Harold Watts Knight was born on 15 July 1889, the son of Jerrold Ernest Knight and Mary Elizabeth nee Watts. Harold was enrolled as a day student at Geeling College in 1905, his address at the time being 332 Moorabool St, Geelong.

During World War I, he enlisted (No 2680) with 29 Battalion (5th Reinforcement Group) in the AIF on 11 August 1915. Before he embarked for Suez on HMAT A68 Anchises on 14 March 1916, he married Elsie May Bradley, daughter of John and Elizabeth Bradley. He further embarked from Alexandria on HMT Francaine on 16 June. He was promoted Sergeant in the Australian Army Pay Corps, based at Tidworth, and in 1918 transferred to 1st Training Brigade as Pay Sergeant. He returned to Australia, embarking on 31 March 1919 on HMT Khyber.
