LAMBLE, Dr Gilbert (1885-1917)


Dr Gilbert Lamble, lecturer in medicine, the son of George Robert Lamble and Catherine Mary Mullins attended College from 1898 to 1901 becoming School Dux that year.

He matriculated with honours, attended Melbourne University and, in 1908, graduated MB and BS with first-class honours winning the scholarship in Therapeutics, Dietetics and Hygiene. He also gained second-class honours in medicine and surgery. In 1909 he was appointed demonstrator in Pathology at Melbourne University, later becoming Stewart Lecturer in that subject. He was also a tutor and Fellow of Queen’s College. After obtaining his MD degree, he was appointed acting Professor of Pathology for 12 months. In 1914, he became lecturer in Histology at the University, but suffered a breakdown in health. His brother Roy Lamble (1883-1958) was also educated at Geelong College becoming a staff member at the School from 1903 to 1947.
