LLOYD, Bruce Edward AM (1937- )
Bruce Lloyd, farmer and parliamentarian, is a former President of the Victorian Country Party, Federal Member for Murray and Deputy Leader of the National Party.
Pegasus Magazine first noted his political interests in 1959 when it reported that he had been elected State President of the senior section of the Young Farmers of Victoria. He continued his political involvements becoming President of the Victorian Country Party from 1969 to 1971. On the resignation of Sir John McEwen, Bruce was elected to represent the Federal electorate of Murray, a seat he held continuously from 1971 to 1996. During this period he was elected Deputy President of the National Party, the successor to the Country Party and remained in that position from 1987 to 1993.
Born on 24 February, 1937 he first attended Rochester High School before boarding at Geelong College from 14 February 1952 to December 1954. At College he played in the 3rd Football XVIII in 1953 and 1954, participated on the PFA Committee and became a Warrinn House Prefect. After leaving School he studied at the University of New England.
