LOVE, Rev. Andrew (1798-1867) Rev. Andrew Love was notable among the
founders of Geelong College as a member of the committee convened to enquire into the feasibility of establishing a Presbyterian Grammar School in Geelong in April 1861 and, as a member of the first Committee of Management. At the time he was in charge of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Geelong (now St John's Lutheran Church) in Yarra St, Geelong.
Rev. Andrew Love was the first minister of the Presbyterian Church in Geelong ministering at St Andrew's for 27 years from his arrival in 1840. He had been appointed by the Colonial Committee of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and he, his wife Catherine ( -1877) and family sailed aboard the barque 'India' to Port Phillip arriving on 9 April 1840. In 1861-2 he served as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria.
He died, aged 69 years, on 22 April 1867. His wife, Catherine died on 27 February 1877. Both were interred at the Eastern Cemetery, Geelong. None of his children attended Geelong College.
