David MacBryde started teaching at The Geelong College in 1979 having previously taught at Abbey Wood School, London, Carey Baptist Grammar School and St Joseph’s Regional College, Colac. Employed as a Maths teacher, David would go onto work in many areas of the Senior School. In those early years he was a tutor in Mackie boarding house. He was also Head of McArthur House from 1980-1988 and then a house tutor for McArthur until his retirement.

Driven by concern for student welfare, David was integral to the development of Health Education at the College. He was Health Education Coordinator 1990-1996 then Personal Development Coordinator from 1997 to his retirement in 1998. He also started a bushwalking club during his time. When he retired, his colleagues noted his integrity, compassion and wisdom, and he was a passionate advocate of the disabled and disadvantaged.

David was married to Barbara and they have five children, three of whom attended the College.

David passed away 13 December 2021, aged 83 years.
