MACKAY, Donald Macpherson (1863-1926)

MACKAY, Donald Macpherson (1863-1926)

Donald Macpherson Mackay entered Geelong College as a day student on 14 October 1879. He was born on 11 November 1863, a son of Alexander Mackay and Christina nee McPherson. His address at enrolment was Stephen St, Newtown, Victoria,

In May 1926, Pegasus published his obituary: ‘Donald Macpherson Mackay passed away in January, after haying undergone a serious operation in Sydney some months previously. He died at his home at ‘Mooral’, Hillston, New South Wales, and was buried from the Presbyterian Church at Hillston by the Rev. Stewart Robertson, in the presence of many sorrowing and devoted friends, including William A. Waugh, of Clare Station, who was one of his closest school mates and chums in after life. Donald was born at Geelong, being the eldest of a family of fourteen, eleven of whom are still living. He was very popular with all with whom he came in contact, and his genial countenance will be very much missed by a large circle of friends and Old Boys.

A true lover of genuine sport, he took an active part in the local race clubs, and was also a prominent member of the Hillston P. and A. Society. He was a member of the old original Stock Board, which subsequently was taken over by the P.P. Board, and of which body he was regularly elected a member, and of which, at the time of his death, he was chairman. In 1915, he married Miss Dorman, and to her and three little ones, Ian, Marjorie and Barney, we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy.'

His brother; Angus Nicholson Mackay (1864-1933) and sons; Ian Hamilton Mackay (1916-2006), and Donald McKenzie Mackay (1919-1996), were also educated at Geelong College.
