MACLEAN, Harold Alfred (1884-1970)


Harold Maclean was enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College in 1899. Although no departure date is listed for him he probably continued at the School through 1900. His entry address was listed as ‘Towrang’ Wollondale, NSW. He played with the 1st Cricket XI of 1899 and 1900. He is also listed in the Annual Report prize lists as follows:
1899 - 1st, Arithmetic, Lower 4th Class;
1899 - 2nd, Algebra, Lower 4th Class;
1899 - 2nd, Euclid, Lower 4th Class;
1899 - 1st French, 2nd Class;
1900 - 1st Drawing;

His parents were Mordaunt Leyburn Maclean and Letitia Mary nee Stanger-Leathes.

Pegasus in 1909 noted that he was at Hawkesbury Agricultural College and captaining the Cricket Eleven. In 1924, Pegasus reported that the Sydney Branch of the OGCA were 'a live body, who are fortunate in having as Secretary H A Maclean, ...' . He was reported to then be at 113 Pitt St, Sydney. He was a member of the OGCA committee foor many years.

His brothers, Alister Grant Maclean, MC (1888-1965); Norman Arthur Maclean (1891-1933); Allan Kenneth Maclean (1893-1969); all attended Geelong College. Unlike his three brothers who attended Geelong College Harold did not enlist during World War I.
