Sam McMahon was born to Anne and Ewan in 1976. He was enrolled at the college for his final two years, Year 11 and 12 in 1993-1994. He was quickly appointed to the 1st XVIII football team and received both House and School Colours. As part of Keith House, he also received House Cricket and Cross-Country Colours in 1994.

After graduating with a Commerce degree, Sam lived and worked overseas for a few years. He returned to Australia and married Kate Stewart (OGC 1994) at the College Chapel. They had two children.

Sam had a successful career in business, working in a number of management roles at Bluescope Steel, before joining the company in Thailand and Singapore. Eventually he became President of Bluescope Thailand and Myanmar. In 2020 he returned to Melbourne, appointed as Vice President Digital, Product & Service Innovation Strategy.

Sam’s sporting interests continued and he spent some of his free time in Thailand volunteering at Bangkok Lions Rugby Football Club.

Sam passed away 28 January 2021, aged 44 years.
