Pegasus in September 1932 noted:
Ernest Murray (1867), of 'Kirrewah', Booval, Queensland, attended the Brisbane Re-union in August. Ernest and his brother Chester are the only surviving members of the Hugh Murray family, of 'Barongarook', Colac, which comprised five brothers, who all attended the old College in Skene Street, in the early sixties.

He died on 3 October 1936 at Brisbane.

His brothers, Andrew Strachan Murray (1847-1930), Augustus Morris Murray (1849-1915), Chester Jervis Murray (1855-1940), and Kenneth Murray (1857-1900), were also educated at Geelong College.
