The College community was shocked by the death of Andrew McArthur, who passed away at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney after being struck by a vehicle while cycling in central Sydney on Tuesday 27 March 2018.

Andrew is the son of 'Stewart' and Beverley McArthur, twin brother of James (OGC 2006), and brother of Sarah.

Andrew was a day student at Geelong College from February 2003 to December 2006. At College, Andrew was a member of McArthur House (named in honour of his grandfather's uncle), played in the 1st Tennis Team in 2003, the 1st XVIII Football Team in 2005 and 2006, and as the Vice-Captain of Boats, rowed in the 1st VIII Rowing Crew of 2006. He was also a member of the College Athletics Team in 2002.

Andrew played football for Newtown-Chilwell before studying Urban Planning and Development at Melbourne University and Ormond College. He was named as a member of the Geelong College Football Team of the Decade (2001-2010) in recognition of his outstanding football skills and ability.

Andrew had moved to Sydney several years ago where he maintained an active life. He swam with the 'Bondi Salties' and rode five mornings a week with the Paddington Cycling Club. He was cycling with members of the club when the accident ocurred. Andrew had been working as an asset analyst at USB Investment Services in Sydney at the time of his untimely accident.
