McKINDLAY, James Leslie (1896-1969)


James Leslie McKindlay was born at Moama on 23 November 1896, the son of Robert Clark McKindlay and Alice Jane nee Tomlinson. He attended Wamboota State School and later became a boarder at Geelong College from February 1910 to December 1912. His address at enrolment was listed as Wamboota via Moama, New South Wales. He was a member of the 1st Cricket XI in 1912 and the Athletics Team in 1910.

He was farming at Moama when he enlisted (No 64828) in the AIF on 25 February 1918 with the 4th Light Horse (31st General Service Reinforcements), embarking for France on RMS Ormonde on 7 March 1918. McKindley returned to Australia, embarking on 18 June 1919.

His Moama Cemetery Memorial states that James McKindlay died on 17 December 1969 at Dromana aged 73 years though his Victorian Death Registration states 18 December.
