OSBORNE, James (1858-1917)


James Osborne was born on 19 February 1858 to parents James Osborne and Eliza Ellen (nee Houston) Osborne.

James was enrolled at Geelong College on 28 January 1874. His address at enrolment was 'Merton Lodge' Elsternwick and he had previously been enrolled at Scotch College in 1870.

James Osborne won the Veterans' Plate at the Geelong College Sports in 1900. This silver trophy was generously donated to the College in 2011 by 'Alan' Glover (1923-2017).

The Argus newspaper noted his death: 'On the 15th July, at Williams Road, Toorak, James Osborne, aged 59 years. (Private interment).' He was interred at Brighton Cemetery on 16 July 1918.

James' brothers, Henry Houston Osborne (1860-1944) and Frederick William Osborne (1863-1941) were also educated at Geelong College.
