Mining engineer, Dr Pillow who died on 29 August 1960 was the eldest of three talented brothers who attended the Geelong College during the early 1900s. A well known and dedicated Old Collegian, he became President of the OGCA and a member of the College Council.

He was the son of Henry Pillow and Amelia nee Fairman and attended the School from 1899 to about 1903 as a day student, becoming Dux of the College in 1903. He was a member of the College rifle teams which won the Sargood Shield and the Cumming Cup, and his interest in shooting was later maintained in big game hunting expeditions in Africa. Obtaining his Doctorate of Philosophy at the Berlin University in 1908, Dr Pillow then qualified as a mining engineer at the Mining Academy, Freiberg, Saxony and followed a career in mining in Katanga in the Congo, South Africa and Rhodesia before accepting a position with the Australian Cement Limited's Fyansford works in 1924. Dr Pillow was General Manager of the Company at the time of his death.

He served the School both as a member of the College Council and as President of the Old Collegians’ Association. His two sons, Dr Albert Fenton Pillow (1921-2006) and Harry Vincent Pillow, are both Old Collegians.

His brothers, Henry Fenton Pillow (1893-1918) and Roy Nelson Pillow (1894-1918) both attended the School. The Fen and Roy Pillow Bursary was named in memory of these two brothers killed in World War I. A Collection of material about the Pillow Family is held in the School Archives.
