MURRAY, Chester Jervis (1855-1940)


Chester Murray, son of pastoralist and College supporter, Hugh Murray (1814-1869) and Elizabeth nee Young (1823-1892), and born in August 1855, was enrolled at Geelong College in 1864 and probably left in 1872.

He is listed in the Annual Report Prize Lists with the following awards:
1867 2 Latin 2nd Class
1867 3 Arithmetic 2nd Class
1872 3 Geography 5th Class
1872 3 Euclid 4th Class
1872 Gymnastics Champion

He was a member of the 1st Football Team in 1871 and 1872 and the 1st Cricket XI in 1871.

He died on 7 March 1940.

His brothers, Andrew Strachan Murray (1847-1930), Augustus Morris Murray (1849-1915), Ernest Murray (1852-1936), and Kenneth Murray (1857-1900), were also educated at Geelong College.
