Mark Mitchell Wettenhall was born in 1970 to Warwick (OGC 1943) and Sheila, of Cara, Jerilderie. Growing up on the family’s property, Mark boarded at Geelong College from 1986-1988, after his brother Angus (OGC 1985).

During his time at College Mark received multiple colours from Junior House colour in 1986 to School Rowing, Basketball and Swimming Colours in 1988. In 1988, Mark also coached the Rural team to a win over the Urbans in a Mackie House football match. Mark was Mackie House Vice Captain and joint House Captain of Wettenhall House. He was awarded The Alexander Coto and John Coto Memorial Prize, for students not otherwise named on the Prize List who have worked consistently in 1988.

Following school Mark studied Bachelor of Rural Science at the University of New England with Honours. By 1998 he had travelled Europe and Thailand and was engaged to Fiona Hart (MOC 1984). Fiona and Mark married and they had three children.

Mark farmed on the family property, Cara Plains. He was a member of the Yanco Creek and Tributaries Advisory Council Inc. for over twenty years and served as their Vice President. In 2018 and 2019, he won the John Wells Memorial Shield at Jerilderie Breeders sheep sale.

Mark passed away 22 May 2020, aged 49 years.
