ROBERT GILLESPIE SCRIPTURE PRIZE The 'Robert Gillespie Scripture Prize' was established as an annual award in 1930, though only listed as Gillespie from 1931 onwards, in memory of a former Collegian,
Robert Kerr Gillespie (1856-1929), who attended the School from at least 1864 to about 1871.
Both Senior and Junior Scripture Prizes had been awarded since the very earliest years of the School. The renaming of the prize was in response to a donation of £100 from Robert Gillespie in 1929, the year prior to his death. The award appears to have ceased about 1982. At times the distinctions between the awards such as between the Scripture Prize and the Robert Gillespie Prize is obscure or unknown. During the 1930s awards were made for both a Scripture Prize and the Robert Gillespie Prize which may have been a junior prize at the time. From 1948 onwards a junior and senior version of the Robert Gillespie Prize was awarded.
