ROWE, Havel Stuart (1928-2019)

Born 8 May 1928, Havel Rowe was enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College in 1943, having previously attended Cohuna Higher Elementary. From his first year, in Form IV, Havel was on the First XVIII Football Team, continuing until his final year in 1945. He served as the team’s captain in 1943. In 1944 and 1945 he was also in the First XI Cricket team, serving as the team’s captain in 1945. Other interests were swimming, tennis and the cadets.

Following his schooling, Havel moved to Melbourne, studied accounting and joined the Ormond amateur football club. Within three years he was picked up by Richmond Football Club and debuted on their senior team in 1948. He played 124 games with the Club, picking up their Best and Fairest award in 1953. After his retirement in 1957 he was awarded Life Membership from the Club and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2015.

Jim Fidge listed Havel in The Geelong College Legends Team 1920-1990 as Interchange.

Havel passed away 30 March 2019, aged 90 years.
