STOCK, Leslie Gardiner (1881-1941)


Leslie Gardiner Stock was born on 8 June 1881, the son of Robert Alfred Stock and Elizabeth Mary Stock.

He became a boarder at Geelong College on 30 July 1895, listing his address as 'East View', East Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia. He was a member of the 1st Football Team in 1898 and 1899.

On 21 June 1906 he married Hilda Rischbieth at St Peter's Church, Glenelg in South Australia.

During World War I, he enlisted in the 9th Light Horse Regiment (16th Reinforcements) on 28 April 1916, embarking on HMAT A41 Bakara. He then served with the Imperial Camel Corps (Anzac Battalion).

He returned to Australia, then re-enlisted on 25 April 1918 and embarked from Sydney with th No 1 Draft, Staff in Charge Italian Reservists on RMS Osterley on 8 May 1918. His next of kin on his Embarkation Roll was listed as his aunt, Miss E M Lewis, of South Terrace, Adelaide, and his occupation as vigneron, of MacLaren Vale, South Australia.

After service , he embarked for return to Australia on 8 August 1918.

His brother, Adolph Clinton Stock (1878-1924), was also educated at Geelong College.
