STRACHAN, Robert Norman (1835-1927)

STRACHAN, Robert Norman (1835-1927)

Robert Norman Strachan, son of James Ford Strachan and Lilias Cross, nee Murray, was born at Geelong on 24 April 1853. He is believed to have attended Geelong College in 1861 although his entry is unable to be verified as no enrolment records for the period 1861-1870 at College have survived.

His death was noted by Pegasus in August 1927: ‘R. Norman Strachan passed away after a very short illness at his home, ‘Woodstock’, Woorigoleen Road, Toorak, on the 16th August. One of the earliest pupils of the College, a son of the Hon. Jas. F. Strachan, M.L.C., of ‘Lunan’, Geelong, he had always been a loyal and liberal supporter of his old school. His late son, Lancelot, was also educated at the College prior to his graduating as a barrister and solicitor.’

His brothers, Hugh Murray Stachan (1851-1933), and James Ford Strachan (1849-1925), were also educated at Geelong College.
