Community service worker, spokesperson and talented badminton player, Ross Synot was a student at East Geelong State School before continuing his education at Geelong College from February 1957 to December 1959. At College he was a member of Shannon House and in his final year a member of the 1st Tennis Team.

In the Australia Day Honours List, 2015 Ross Synot was awarded the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division in recognition of his 'service to sport, and to the community of Geelong' .
