TYERS, Alexander MacKenzie (1895-1967)
Born at Linton on 28 May 1895, Alexander MacKenzie Tyers was the son of Alexander MacKenzie Tyers and Mary Jane nee Campbell.
He was enrolled at Geelong College as a day student in 1907, leaving that same year. His address at entry was La Trobe Terrace, Geelong.
He had served in 65th Infantry Battalion (Militia) and his occupation on his Embarkation Roll at the time of his enlistment was noted as assistant civil engineer and surveyor. He embarked on HMAT A5 Omrah on 17 January 1917 with C Flight, No 4 Squadron, and was appointed 2nd Lieutenant with the Australian Flying Corps (AFC) on 23 December 1916. His training was at 71 Squadron, Castle Bromwich, in April 1917, and at 45 Training Squadron, South Carlton, in July.
He returned to Australia on HMT Osterley on 31 January 1918, and his appointment was terminated on 16 May 1918, due to minor epilepsy.
He served in the Second World War as Major A M Tyers and was discharged on 12 November 1945.
His father, Alexander Mackenzie Tyers (c1857-1943) was also educated at Geelong College.
