TURNER, Neil Morrish (1927-2002)


Born on 25 June 1927 at Geelong, the son of Robert Clive Turner and Edna, nee Morrish, he was enrolled at Geelong College from 13 February 1941 to December 1943. In 1942, he was a member of the College Relay team.

During the closing stages of World War II, he enlisted on 17 July 1945, eventually serving for twenty-three years in the Australian Army.

Pegasus of June 1946 noted:
‘Neil Turner, ex-AIF, and Lionel Sparrow are members of the new course at the Royal Military College, Duntroon.’

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs lists him with Vietnam Service (No. 3350080) as a Lt Col (Official duty from Australian Staff College) with the Royal Australian Army Service Corps from 26 October 1966 to 31 October 1966. Neil held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his visit to South Vietnam with RAASC. He was discharged from the Army on 31 December 1968, and was then at the Australian Staff College.

Neil died on 8 April 2002.

His son, Gregory Turner was also educated at Geelong College.
