UPTON, Henry (1855-1936) Henry Upton, barrister, footballer and briefly, Mayor of the City of Prahran, was a student at Geelong College from 1869 until 1871.

Henry was the eighth of nine children of a Geelong merchant, William Upton (1817-1884) and Jane nee Eldridge (1815-1889) and was the youngest of three brothers to attend the College. He was President of the Law Institute of Victoria in 1916/1917 and a Mayor of the City of Prahran in 1908. Controversially, he resigned from the mayoralty after failing to be appointed as a Council representative on the newly formed High St Tramways Trust. He was a member of the Adelaide Rowing Club from 1884 until at least 1886 and elected Captain in 1884.

Pegasus obituary described him as follows:
'He matriculated at the College in 1871, graduating later at the Adelaide University, subsequently practising as a barrister and solicitor in Melbourne. He was Vice-President of the Old Collegians' Association in 1914. Well-known in sporting circles he played with the Geelong Football Club when they won the premiership for two successive years, was captain of the Adelaide Rowing Club, and as a bowler he played in twenty-seven inter-state games for Victoria. He was Past Grand Registrar for the Grand Masonic Lodge in Victoria, and was a former Mayor and Councillor of Prahran' . He died at Anderson St, South Yarra on 22 September 1936.
