VENTERS, James Stewart, BEM 1911-2002


James Venters was a 'recipient of the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the community in Stonehaven. Stewart’s outstanding work has been as a volunteer member of the fire service for 40 years. He is vice-president of Region 7 RFBA. He is also a member of Morongo Presbyterian Girls' College Council.'

James was born on 17 June 1911, the son of William Ramsay venters and Catherine Emily nee Costain and was enrolled at Geelong College from 14 February 1923 to December 1927 in Calvert House. He had previously attended Gheringhap State School and his address at entry was 'Dalkeith', Gheringhap.

At various times he was a pilot with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), CFA Volunteer, President of the Rotary Club of Geelong West and a Paul Harris Fellow 1965-66.

His brother, Robert Venters (1909-1986), was also educated at Geelong College.
