WALKER, Geoffrey Selwyn AFC (1897-1932)
Geoffrey Selwyn Walker, later known as 'Johnnie' was born in October 1897, the son of Charles Walker JP, and his wife Edith Annie nee Jesse. After attending Ballarat Grammar School he became a boarder at Geelong College in February 1912, leaving in December 1912. His address at enrolment was Red Court, Ballarat.
During World War I, he enlisted (No 7970) as a Private in the AIF and embarked for England with the 8th Infantry Brigade Train, 18th Company Army Service Corps on HMAT A41 Bakara on 5 November 1915. He transferred to the 5th Division Army Ordnance Corps on 1 January 1917, and then to the Australian Flying Corps (AFC) where he attended the Cadet School in England on 5 October 1917. He was promoted 2nd Lieutenant (Flying Officer) on 23 April 1918.
He was invalided out of the AFC on 25 May 1918, but was awarded the Air Force Cross, gazetted on 3rd June 1919. He returned to Australia on HMT City of Karachi, embarking on 24 August 191. His appointment terminated on 2 December 1918.
He died on 9 January 1932.
