Morongo, a 25th Year Patron of The Australian Youth Classical Music CompetitionIn 1990, the Geelong Advertiser Music Scholarship Trust was formed through an initial grant of $60,000 made by The Geelong Advertiser. In 2011 the Trustees resolved to change the name of the competition from the Geelong Advertiser Music Competition to the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition (AYCMC). 2020 marked the 30th year of the competition but as COVID-19 prevented running the competition, 2023 is now the 32nd year.
In 2015, the Morongo Old Collegians Association Inc. resolved to support the scholarship, as a way of helping the Geelong Community, with a $10,000 donation, becoming a 25th Anniversary Patron.
The Geelong Advertiser Music Scholarship Trust (GAMST) which runs the AYCMC, are recognised donors in The Geelong College Steinway Fundraiser.
Regional SectionThe purpose of the Regional section is to encourage and recognize local solo instrumental musicians with the award of a Regional Prize of $2,000. Runner-up prizes of $1,000 are awarded to three finalists. To enter the Regional Section, participants must be aged 18 years of age or younger as at the 1st of January and reside within the G21 footprint or are a full time student at a secondary school within the region.

2016: Amy You was the Winner. She began studying the violin at the age of 6 years. She completed her AMEB studies in 2013, and then her VCE studies in 2016, where her string quartet were asked to perform at VCE Top Class (2015). Amy completed her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (University of Melbourne) in 2019.
2017: An Trinh won the section on piano. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Linguistics and French. Since early 2023, An has been travelling around the world and volunteering in various environmental projects. In 2024, An plans to return to her love of music and pursue piano studies in Leipzig, Germany.
In 2018, Georgia White won the section, playing the clarinet. Georgia completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Melbourne under David Griffiths in 2022
In 2023 Georgia is continuing her musical studies, commencing training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under the tutelage of David Thomas.
In 2023, Hannah Phung, also studying at The Geelong College played violin was a runner-up in the Regional Section. She had been a finalist during the previous four years. In 2022, Hannah studied Music Performance and was the recipient of The Geelong College’s Music Performance Prize. Hannah commenced learning the violin from six years of age under Emily Anderson. Hannah is preparing to complete her Australian Music Academy during 2024.
