EDGAR, Ian Swan (1889-1984)Ian Edgar was born at Kadnook Station, Harrow, on 15 July 1889, the son of John Thomas Edgar and Margaret nee Swan. He was enrolled at Geelong College as a boarder in 1904. In 1906, he gained 1st Prize in Seniors Music, an award which was presented by Mr H C Cotton.
Ian Edgar enlisted (2804) as a Private in the AIF on 10 January 1917. He embarked from Fremantle with the March 1917 Reinforcement Group on
HMAT A42 Boorara on 22 May 1917 for Egypt with the Imperial Camel Corps. Wounded at the Third Battle of Gaza on 8 November 1917 by a gunshot wound to the right arm, he returned to Australia on 1 March 1918.
Ian Edgar died on 29 March 1984.
His brother, Sergeant
Ronald Swan Edgar (1887-1917) was killed in action at Second Gaza on 19 April 1917, and is buried in the Gaza War Cemetery.
Two of his brothers,
Ronald Swan Elgar (1887-1917), and
Waldene Philip Swan Edgar (1899-1978) were also educated at Geelong College.
