Stanley Hamilton-Calvert was a member of the re-established
College Council from 1908-1939 and Chairman from 1922-1939. He was also Secretary of the Old Geelong Collegians' Association from its inception in 1901 until his death in 1939.
Calvert House is named after him.
His portrait, by Charles Wheeler, and donated anonymously in July 1936 hangs in the Senior School Dining Room.
A son of Robert Calvert and Maria Jane, nee Stodart, Stanley Calvert was enrolled at Geelong College on 9 February 1886. Family members were among the first students of the School when it was founded in 1861. Stanley Hamilton-Calvert was born at Geelong on 27 June 1872. His birth entry in the College enrolment Register was amended from 1873 to 1872.
He died on 22 September 1939 and was interred at the Western Cemetery Geelong.
The College Archives hold his diaries of overseas trips to Europe in 1909 and Japan in 1911. A description of his trip to Egypt appeared in
Pegasus of 1909. The
Stanley B Calvert Prize for Debating and Public Speaking was named so in his honour after his death. Also named for him was the
Stanley B Calvert Cup, awarded from 1921 until 1999.
His brothers, Claude Grenville Calvert, Russell Piron Calvert and Lawrence Neville Calvert were also educated at Geelong College.
