Robert Hannaford, artist and cartoonist, has depicted several notable members of the School in oil painted portraits. These include:

Robert Hannaford was born at Riverton, South Australia and first worked for the Adelaide Advertiser newspaper as a political cartoonist before turning to painting, becoming a full-time artist in 1970. Although largely self-taught, he is now one of Australia’s foremost realist painters and has won various awards including the Doug Moran Portrait Prize in 1990, Fleurieu Prize in 1998, and has been a finalist in the Archibald People's Choice Award on several occasions.

The roll call of individuals who have been the subject of Hannaford portraits include Dame Joan Sutherland, Sir Donald Bradman and former Prime Ministers, Hon Bob Hawke and Hon Paul Keating. He was also commissioned to paint the opening of Parliament for the Centenary of Federation, 2001 as a companion to the Tom Roberts work.
