Dr Turner was Principal of The Geelong College from 1996 to 2012. Prior to appointment to the College in 1996 Dr Turner was, from ' 1993, Head of the Senior School at Pembroke, a leading co-educational school in Adelaide. An eminently successful teacher, she had previously been Head of Languages at Abbotsleigh in Sydney. She was the founding Coordinator of Languages Professional Development of the Association of Independent Schools in New South Wales and has been a Chairperson and member of Board of Studies Committees in New South Wales in relation to the Higher School Certificate. She is a member of the Australian College of Education. Born in Western Australia, Dr Turner is an Arts graduate of the University of Western Australia with First Class Honours. She has a Master's Degree from the University of Paris and is a PhD of the University of Sydney’ .

During her appointment as Principal, Dr Turner was a member of the Council of Deakin University (1996 to 2010), including two four-year terms as Deputy Chancellor. She was also on the Board of Marcus Oldham College from 1996 to 2006, and a Trustee of the Geelong Performing Arts Centre from 1996 to 1999. Dr Turner served as Chair of APS Heads from 2007 to 2009. In 2001, she was awarded a Centenary Medal for service to Australian society and higher education.
