HERMAN, Arnold Glover (1897-1977)Arnold Glover Herman was educated at Ballarat College and then enrolled at Geelong College as a boarder where he commenced in February 1911. At the time of his enrolment he was living at Armstrong St, Ballarat. He left in April 1914.
He was born on 20 October 1897, the son of Frank Herman and Kate Ethel nee Blight.
He served 3 years in Senior Cadets. Arnold worked as a clerk before he enlisted (No 16188) as a driver with the 1st Motor Transport Company on 20 August 1917. He sailed from Sydney for France on
HMAT A54 Runic on 22 March 1918. He returned to Australia, embarking on 6 September 1919. Before leaving England he was granted leave to gain some theatrical experience at Dalston Theatre in London.
However, on returning to Australia he returned to an active role in the family firm of J J Goller and Co Pty Ltd run largely by his father whom he and his brother Frank then succeeded when their father died in 1937. The firm, which traded as a wholesale wine and spirit merchant began business in 1855 originally at Hards Hill near Buninyong.

Frank Gabriel Herman (1894-1975), was also educated at Geelong College.
