STANLAKE, Robert John (1883-1972)
Robert John Stanlake was born at Ballarat on 17 March 1883, the son of Robert Stanlake and Christina nee McLeod.
He was a day student at Geelong College, enrolling in 1901 with an address of Garden Street, Geelong.
During World War I, he enlisted (No 3389) in the AIF at Warrnambool on 1 April 1915, then embarked with HMAT A31 Ajana on 4th June 1915. He served as a Sergeant with C Section, 6th Field Ambulance on Gallipoli, arriving there on 30 August. He was evacuated with typhoid on 30 November 1915 to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis. He was returned to Australia on HMT Borda, embarking on 17 August 1916.
On his return from the war, he married Sophie Margherita Dunne.
He died on 15 June 1972.
His brother, George Gunn Stanlake (1887-1964), was also educated at Geelong College.
