AD ASTRA NEWSLETTER

Ad Astra was established in November 1959 as the Newsletter of the College. First published as a four page, black and white foolscap sized newsletter two to three times a year it has evolved over time into a full colour Community Magazine with a circulation in 2008 to almost 10,000 households.

In 1965, after the Capital Appeals, the Old Geelong Collegians’ Association briefly took over the publication as the Newsletter to Old Geelong Collegians but in March, 1969 it reverted to The News Sheet of the Geelong College Community. The March 1969 masthead included a statement as ‘incorporating The College Parent’.

Through much of the 1980s the masthead included 'The Old Collegians’ Association' before briefly becoming the Newsletter of the Geelong College and The Old Geelong Collegians’ Association in the April 1989 issue. In August 1989, by which time it was being published twice a year in June and December, it became simply the Geelong College Community Magazine. From June 1966 several features such as personal news previously published in Pegasus Magazine were transferred to Ad Astra.

For brief periods during the 1940s, a student newspaper known as Chez Nous was also published.
